What We Want to Be

I want to be able to let my kids leave my classroom knowing that they are more knowledgable and prepared than they were when they entered. That won’t happen every day, but over all. From the first day of school to the last. I want them to be better. I want for them to want to be better.

Online content and the use of technology in our classrooms should be used like the expensive and extensive resource that it is.   The Internet is not something that is going away so we should encourage our students to learn the correct way of using it to their advantage in their everyday lives.   We should teach our students how to dissect the information on the Internet just like we would the information in a sentence in a textbook. 

 I want to teach my students how to look at a problem from more than one angle.   In order to grasp and keep their attention we should use age appropriate, real life situations to teach our students how to navigate the world, online and face to face.  

 

Microsoft Innovative Educator

I am a Microsoft Innovative Educator. The courses under the MIE program that I have completed include the 21st Century Learner introductory course, the Flipped Instruction course, the Workforce Ready Skills course, the Diverse learners course, and the Microsoft Forms course. My transcript can be found here. The tools that Microsoft offer educators and learners and even every day users are amazing. The college course I have taken this summer has opened my eyes to the technology I have had access to and didn’t even know it. This technology will help my future students and me become better learners and innovators.

Instructional Philosophy

I believe the reasons we enter the world of education varies from person to person.  For me, it started with my love of books. My love of reading and my passion to share with others what I’ve read has instilled in me the determination to succeed in this profession.  I strive to encourage and support students to be critical thinkers, advanced researchers, and reading enthusiasts. 

My philosophy as the Librarian is to maintain a clean, diverse collection of fiction and nonfiction in contemporary prints and digital access, with publications that span across generations.  I will meet the needs of all students, including low level readers, readers with disabilities, and advanced readers. My duties include cleaning, repairing, and updating the book collection that students may choose from.  They will maintain the quality of our library books for 2 weeks at a time. My duties will not stop at the library door. Equal to promoting literacy, my job is to deliver instructional and technological support to the teachers and staff at my school.  I will maintain, update, review, and coordinate any and all online programs used by the school with my fellow teachers and support staff.  

When students walk through my door, they are welcomed with a smile and encouraged to find books on subject they are passionate about.  I am also here to support the classroom instruction by working with teachers and student on classroom projects, student led clubs, and parental involvement with our community.  The equal respect for teacher and student will be upheld in the library. It is wonderful to serve every student in the school, and watch them fall in love with reading.
